About Noah J. Toly

Noah J. Toly is currently the Provost at Calvin University. Previously, he was a professor of urban studies and politics and international relations at Wheaton College, where he directed the Center for Urban Engagement. He's written on the role of cities in global governance, was the founding editor of the Routledge series, Cities and Global Governance, and taught on global cities at the Free University of Berlin's Center for Global Politics.

In 2011, Toly was named an Emerging Leader by the Council, and for 2012-2013, he was appointed as a senior fellow at the University of Chicago's Martin Marty Center for the Advanced Study of Religion. In 2014, he was a visiting scholar at Ming Chuan University (Taipei, Taiwan). He has been a visiting scholar at Duke Divinity School, a senior fellow at the University of Chicago’s Martin Marty Center for the Public Understanding of Religion, and associate fellow at the University of Virginia’s Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture. Toly earned his BA in interdisciplinary studies and Spanish at Wheaton College, an MA in theology at Wheaton College, and an MA and PhD in urban affairs and public policy at the University of Delaware.
